HEALTH CARE FOR
VULNERABLE POPULATIONS
At MSH Peru, we bring healthcare to people living in poverty, extreme poverty and high vulnerability, emphasising eye health as a gateway to inclusion, autonomy and a better quality of life. We know that problems such as uncorrected presbyopia or damage from solar radiation particularly affect older adults, rural populations, users of social programmes and people with disabilities, who often do not have access to ophthalmological services or adequate eyeglasses.
That is why we design and implement programmes that:
- They detect vision problems early on and provide reading glasses to those who need them.
- They prevent damage from solar radiation by using lenses with UV protection.
- They work hand in hand with government social programmes (Pension 65, CONTIGO, PAIS and PCA) to reach those most in need throughout the country.
- They provide clear information and practical tools to help people take care of their visual health and remain actively involved in their families, communities, and daily lives.
In this way, we contribute to reducing preventable visual impairment and enabling more people, especially the most vulnerable, to see better and live better.
OUR PROJECTS
Programme to improve PRESBYOPIA (near vision) ‘Que Bien Te Veo Perú’ (I See You Well, Peru)
MSH Peru programme that provides a simple and accessible solution to near vision problems (presbyopia) by measuring and providing reading glasses to people over 40 living in poverty, extreme poverty and vulnerability in Peru. Reading glasses, recognised by the WHO as a priority assistive technology, help restore near vision, strengthen the autonomy of older people and facilitate their active participation in family, community and daily life.
Solar Radiation Damage Prevention Programme (PPDRS)
MSH Peru programme that seeks to prevent damage from solar radiation by facilitating access to UV-protective sunglasses for populations living in poverty and vulnerable situations. We accompany this delivery with clear information on self-care and photoprotection measures, so that people can protect their visual health and skin during exposure to the sun.
